Client - Here And Now [Cicada Mix]
Kazoos are one of the easiest instruments to play; even the design is fairly simple. It creates a buzzing sound when a person hums into it. There is nothing on this instrument that will help to change the pitch or the sound; this is done by the person humming into it. As the person changes their humming, the sound through the kazoo will be altered as well. Some people can find it difficult to play this instrument properly because they take the instruction to hum too literally. To get the best sound out of the kazoo, the person has to more or less speak into the instrument, which makes a harder vocalization and makes a stronger sound that will work through the kazoo.
This simple little instrument that is a popular toy for many young children has a long history. Many people are unaware of the kazoo's origins. Instruments similar to the kazoo originated from Africa, where it was used for hundreds of years for many different purposes. Not only were the instruments used in many rituals and ceremonies, they were also used when hunting. Different ones would mask the sound of someone's voice and some would have the ability to imitate different animals who they were trying to hunt.
It was not until the 1800s when the modern kazoo, which is what people are familiar with today, was invented by an African American known as Alabama Vest. It was not long after this that metal kazoos were being made in New York. From there, the instrument grew in popularity. One of the few acoustic instruments that were created in the United States, the kazoo was one that anyone could afford and learn how to play without too much trouble. The kazoo has never been an overly expensive instrument, and has been constructed out of many different materials, including wood, metal and plastic.
Even today the kazoo continues to be a popular instrument that is enjoyed by many people around the world. The kazoo is even played professionally in comedy music and in jug bands. Its popularity is probably due to the ease in playing this particular instrument. Though it is quite popular, it is often regarded as more of a toy for children, though there are many older people who still play the instrument. It is not one that people will often think of when choosing an instrument to play, probably because it is not one that is often used in modern day music.
There is, however, a place for it anywhere that someone can fit it in. It is an easy instrument with an interesting sound that can find its place in many genres of music; it is just a matter of writing music that will include it. Of course, there is always the option of someone creating their own tunes. One might not choose the kazoo as their primary instrument for their musical career, but many will choose to have one to play for fun or when it fits in with whatever song they are participating in.

The Hold Steady - Southtown Girls
Two-time professional champion of ABC's hit television show "Dancing With The Stars," Julianne Hough has recently begun focusing on yet another talent - singing.
On May 20, Hough released her self-titled debut album of country music. In the spirit of something her most infamous critics Carrie Anne, Len and Bruno (the judges from the show that made her famous) might say, Hough's debut is very good but there is always some room for improvement.
The best track on the album is probably the first single, "That Song In My Head," which has all the qualities of a fun and catchy tune. Two other songs that really seem to stand out are "My Hallelujah Song" and "About Life" for their sweet vocals and notable themes respectively.
The majority of the tracks fall into what a typical music fan might consider the average to slightly above average category. But, the songs "You, You, You" and "Jimmy Ray McGee" are two examples works that seem either overdone or lacking originality and show the existence of the aforementioned "room for improvement".
Overall, Hough's is something of a breath of fresh air. In an industry that glorifies promiscuity and materialism, she is a complete change of pace. Her debut album gives the music world a refreshing taste of a wholesome and classic country style. And, if she keeps working at it, she could make quite a name for herself as a musician similar to how she has already done so with her skills on the dance floor.
I'd recommend this record to anyone who is more than just a casual country music fan with a passing interest.
Buzzcocks - Orgasm Addict
Many years ago I asked a good friend of mine who is now a very successful professional musician, what my next step in learning was as a musician. I was so surprised with the fact that he could play anything he heard without fumbling for notes; and not only on the keyboard, but also on the bass, the guitar and several other instruments.
He told me that the most important thing a musician should learn is HARMONY. Now, I fully understand why:
When you study harmony, you are not only studying guitar, but all instruments at the same time. Harmony is notes and chords in their context. You start to understand the relationship between note intervals and scales, scales and chords. You know what will work effectively in a musical situation and what will not. You can consciously combine genres (i.e. fusion).
Once you've started learning harmony, you literally 'take off' musically. You have so many directions you can go that you'll never get bored. There's always something new to discover once you get 'out of the box'.
But the problem is which direction to take, what to learn first and what to leave for later on. When people are looking for online jazz guitar lessons; are they just looking for information, or how to put the information to good use?
If it were just a matter of information, the web is filled with hundreds of sources to find out what the Lydian Mode is, for example. Wikipedia itself has the definition and an explanation for anyone interested in knowing about it. But how to put it into use effectively is an entirely different matter.
Good online Jazz guitar lessons are well structured in a step-by-step manner and this takes the guesswork out of your learning. You learn step-by-step through watching videos and seeing it written in musical notation and TAB, practice it and consolidate it by playing along with backing tracks so you get the right feel. By learning in this way, you can clearly see how much you've progressed; and being able to play exactly what you hear is one step closer every time.

BAND SUCCESS: WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD!
Rogue Wave - Chicago X 12
On March 28th 2007, Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers will hit the stage in Vancouver B.C. to kick off a summer tour that will take them through major North American cities as well as venues through-out Europe.
Most dates have already sold-out and the tour will likely be the highest grossing tour of this year. There was well documented bad blood between the band members who stated that they would never play together again under any circumstances.
It seems though, that the obscene amounts of cash readily available to classic rock acts willing to take their show on the road again has changed the minds of these three formerly reluctant participants.
The band has been rehearsing in Vancouver and leaks have revealed many of the tunes getting the majority of attention:
- When The World Is Running Down (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
- Message in a Bottle (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
- Driven To Tears (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
- Walking On The Moon (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
- Synchronicity II (from Synchronicity, 1983)
- Don't Stand So Close To Me (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
- Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
- Walking In Your Footsteps (from Synchronicity, 1983)
- Tea In The Sahara (from Synchronicity, 1983)
- Deathwish (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
- Demolition Man (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
- De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
- Murder By Numbers (from Synchronicity, 1983)
- Spirits In The Material World (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
- Wrapped Around Your Finger (from Synchronicity, 1983)
- Invisible Sun (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
- The Bed's Too Big Without You (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
- One World (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
- Bring On The Night (from Regatta D'Blanc, 1979)
- King Of Pain (from Synchronicity, 1983)
- Shadows In The Rain (from Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980)
- Roxanne (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
- So Lonely (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
- Next To You (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
- Can't Stand Losing You (from Outlandos D'Amour, 1978)
- Rehumanize Yourself (from Ghost In The Machine, 1981)
If the setlists from the Rolling Stones tour are used as a benchmark, fans can likely expect approximately 20 of the above songs to be included in any given show. There was some speculation that Sting might weave some of his solo work into the show but that idea has been refuted for the most part.
Some of the opening acts announced so far include Sloan, The Fratellis, Foo Fighters and Maroon 5. Fiction Plane, a band featuring Sting's son will also be special guests on the tour.
In anticipation of this tour I've dusted off some of my old Police albums and I'm enjoying them immensely.

Everybody learns at their own rate and in a style that is comfortable for them. This is true whether a person is learning to drive, learning math, or learning how to play the guitar. In this article I will examine different ways to learn the guitar, and in the process, maybe help you decide which way is right for you.
When someone asks me which musical instrument I would recommend for them or their children, I usually say the piano, mainly because a person would receive the most all around musical training on this grand instrument. However, the guitar is a very close second. The guitar is great for it's portability, the popularity of the instrument, and just because they are cool!
There are a couple ways to learn to play the guitar. If you are lucky enough to have a friend or sibling that plays (and is patient) you may be able to talk them into showing you a couple things to get you started. From there, you can either take private lessons from a guitar teacher, or get guitar lessons online.
Private lessons big obvious benefit is that there is an instructor right there to correct mistakes before they become bad habits. Your instructor can show you how to play music of your choosing too, you are not bound to learning only what's in the online course. Private guitar lessons can be very expensive though. Normally you buy lesson times in blocks in advance, this can be a large chunk of money to have to come up with all at once.
Online guitar lessons can be done at your own speed which is a good and bad thing. There is no one there to push you to keep moving forward. Most online guitar methods or systems have plenty of diagrams, pictures, and videos, and can be a good way to learn guitar. They are usually set up as "pay once for the entire course" then you have options to purchase further specialized training. For example: lead guitar, acoustic guitar, or blues guitar. Really, for the price you can't go wrong purchasing one of these packages.
What it comes down to in learning guitar is learning new things, practicing them until they are virtually automatic, then moving on to new areas and repeating.
John Phillips has played the guitar for 30 years and is owner of http://www.ucanplaytheguitar.com a great resource for finding online guitar lessons and private guitar lessons.
Want to Learn How to Play Guitar Music?
Have you ever been singing around the campfire with friends, wishing that it were you who were playing the guitar instead? Playing the guitar is a skill that will make you someone others look up to, especially if you're a teen. You may be invited to more parties by people who don't know how to play the guitar. Besides, if you are interested in playing a guitar, it could be that your parents won't be inclined to make you take lessons for an instrument you are not interested in.
The Guitar
If playing the guitar interests you, the first thing you need is a guitar. You can find guitars at music stores and sometimes at department stores. If you know someone who knows how to play, bring them with you when you go to pick one out.
Do you want an acoustic guitar or an electric one? Each one has its own pros and cons. While it may be a little easier to learn to play guitar music with an electric guitar, you will also need to buy an amp, a pick and a cable. You'll need to learn to use all those buttons and knobs as well as learn to play the guitar.
While it can be a bit more challenging to learn to play guitar music with an acoustic guitar, this type is a less complicated. All you'll need to purchase is the guitar and an inexpensive pick. If you're choosing one for a child who gets easily frustrated, you may consider an electric guitar only because it is easier to play and they will feel they are making more progress.
Guitar Lessons
Now you need to find a guitar teacher. Ask around and check the local paper and bulletin boards. You may call the music stores in town and see if they offer lessons or if they can recommend a good teacher in your area.
If you only want to learn a few chords so you can play simple songs, it is possible to learn guitar from books, online lessons or videos. However, if you want to learn to play guitar music that is more complicated, or if you really want to master the instrument, you will benefit much more from private lessons with a good instructor. They'll be able to give you personal attention and correct beginner mistakes quickly so you will learn more. You'll also get immediate feedback, which will keep you motivated.
General Advice
Before you begin your lessons, take a little time to learn the basics of your guitar and get used to it. This way, valuable lesson time will be spent learning your beginning exercises and not on things like the parts of the guitar or how to hold it.
Playing the guitar should be fun. Don't do it if you're not really interested and if someone else only wants you to. If you enjoy it, you'll find you want to practice more, which will make you progress more quickly. If you're not enjoying it, maybe you need a new teacher, or need to make changes in your schedule.
Many musicians who play the guitar mention the satisfaction they get from knowing how to play. Sitting alone and playing guitar music makes them feel good. It is also fun to play for others. By having the skills to be confident in pulling out a guitar while surrounded by friends will make you the center of attention.

Promoting Your Music Online
Thanks to the Internet, it's easier than ever for new bands and artists to be discovered and to sell their music directly to fans. How do you get started and what's the best way to promote your band? Here are some tips:
One of the first places you'll want to visit is MySpace. By now, everyone has heard of it and millions and millions of people have their own accounts. But I bet you didn't know that MySpace offers a special type of account just for promoting a band or artist? It's called MySpace Music and it's completely free to sign up. With this type of account, you can add up to 4 full songs to your account for people to listen to while they are reading your MySpace page. This alone makes a MySpace Music page worthwhile to set up, since getting people to listen to and discover your music is the main goal of most new artists. Include a link to buy your CD from your own website, iTunes or other music store and you've got a great way to increase sales.
If someone likes the music on your profile, they can add your band as a friend, which means they can get email notices when you add a blog or send out a bulletin. Blogging on MySpace is one of the best ways to communicate with your audience (friends), when your band has a tour coming up, an appearance, is working on new music or has any news of any kind, you'll want to post it to your blog and keep your fans up to date. The more your communicate with fans, the more they will feel like a part of your community.
In addition, you can take advantage of a multitude of other options, including listing your influences, adding a picture gallery, adding full videos, adding banners and many other options.
Just be sure to log in often to approve new friends and to communicate with other members. There are also many MySpace Groups you can join where a message board is set up for members to communicate. Joining an emerging artist type group would help you to network with other new artists and even to promote each other, discuss new ways to get new fans, find someone to tour with or even to collaborate with.
Another essential step to promoting your music online is to have your own website. While MySpace is excellent, it's best to have as many avenues of promotion as possible. It can be simple, with just a bit about your band and links to buy your album or it can be a major presence loaded with content. The more content you add and the more often you update your website and your MySpace profile, the better, as people will keep coming back to see your fresh content and news. Some elements to consider adding to your band's website include biographies of the members, history of the band, news section, tour dates and appearance schedule, photos, music videos, sample songs to download, wallpapers, icons, ringtones, links to buy your album or merchandise, discography and anything else you want to let people know about. You'll also want to link your website to your MySpace and vice versa.

Jamaica's Reggae Music
Jamaica is an island known for its reggae music as well as its beauty. Jamaica is filled with brilliant color and flavor. This is truly evident in the diversity of its people, beaches, food, and its music.
Jamaicas music has moved through many different variations. We have heard and seen performances of rhythms such as Dub, Ska, Congo, and Dancehall. All of these rhythms are known across the world as reggae. This music is a combination of African, American, Blues, and Jamaican folk rhythms. Though this style of music is original only to Jamaica, it is known and loved globally. This music had its origin with ska in the late 1950s right about the time Jamaica got its independence from England.
It all started with the sound systems, and the massive open-air discos that established themselves on the streets of Kingston, Jamaica. It was in the 1970s that the late Bob Marley took this art and made it an international craze with roots reggae, which was a heavy, spiritual and conscious sound. In 2002 Bob Marleys album Exodus won album of the century. This proud, bold island had now made its mark on the world first because of its music.
In the 1990s dancehall and reggae evolved, accompanied by the opinion that it contained more offensive lyrics that would encourage street violence and dismay. However, recently I have seen and heard a recent development going back to more socially and spiritually aware lyrics known by some to be the New Roots Movement. I find that this is a good turn for music in Jamaica and the rest of the world. One of the leading producers in Jamaica, Boby Digital, said:
If you feed people with violence theyre going to be vile. If you fill them with love, theyre going to be lovely.
Today you can see the great performances as the artists are showcased at events such as the Caribbean Music Expo, and Jamaica Sumfest. New Reggae artists such as Shaggy, Sean Paul, and Abijah have brought reggae even further internationally. These events usually take place on the north coast (i.e. Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay, Montego Bay, Discovery Bay) of Jamaica, and sometimes the south coast such as Negril, Jamaica.
It is highly recommended that those who are truly interested in Jamaicas culture and music attend one of these shows. Some of these stage shows can be days long, so if you cant be there for the entire show, you can catch at least one day of it.

Xzibit/Full Circle album review
Global rating of the product: 4.5
If it is true that most artists become corrupt by mainstream success, Xzibit is one of those emcees that you will drink with delight after years, like a good glass of fine old wine.
Lead by the hand of a hip hop master, the brand new Full Circle album offers the listener a various panel of artistic collaborations and an original use of lyrics and instrumentals. Full Circle symbolizes the work of an accomplished master.
Invade my space is built on some beautiful jazzy accents enlightened by Jelly Rolls deep and sensual voice and accompanied by piano notes. The soft chorus contrasts with Xzibits offensive manners.
Rollin is another beautiful Jelly Roll-Xzibit collaboration. Built on rhythmic drum beats and hammering piano notes combined with some soft guitar notes and funky bassline, the instrumental structure in itself indicates how much the artists worked on the track. Xzibit spits fire and fully masters a running fast flow over an overheated beat. I recommend you the song by any means.
A dark voice, scratches , keyboards, light piano sounds paint a very unsafe atmosphere. Xzibit describes hood life with a NWA spirit. The track has some strong accents and gives the listener a realistic impression of the LA hood on Ram Part Division.
Say It To My Face is a swinging song that enlightens Kurupt and Don Blazes talents. Xzibit confronts phonies who talk behind his back in no time. Swinging beats, violins, keyboards fully fit with the offensive lyrical atmosphere.
Xzibit makes fun of a common category of people who cowardly talk behind his back. The track has some beautiful punch lines that underline Xzibits lyrical mastery.
What more can I say about Concentrate that hasnt been said in my former review of Xzibits video?
It is rhythmic, original and well done. A must hear!
Family Values is not really my cup of tea, but maybe it is due to the fact I am not that much into love songs. A little bit annoying as far as I am concerned.
Black And Brown is based on a complex instrumental structure and rhythmic beats. Xzibit talks about the City of LA and the problems between the black and latino community. Gang wars have caused destruction thats why the emcee takes time to sit down with his son and talk about the Black and the Brown . Respect is the basis for a better comprehension between both communities.
Poppin Off is built on electronic vocals and catchy beats. DJ Quick and King T collaborated with Xzibit on the song. Dont sleep on that one!
Thank You is a sweet tribute Xzibit made for his fans. Soft piano sounds mixed up with synthesizers and violins reveal deep emotions from Xzibit from his profound heart. The talented emcee keeps real about his mistakes, his failures and successes.
Globally, Xzibit has a brilliant masterpiece of work to offer to hip hop lovers. Nothing sugarcoated, nothing Hollywood: Xzibit serves it raw.
You can cop this CD in all confidence. It is great quality and the result of numerous hours of hard work.
